The First Tennessee Valley Interstellar Workshop
November 28 and 29, 2011
Oak Ridge, Tennessee
The Start of Something New
The first TVIW (aka TVIW2011) was held November 28-29, 2011, in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. TVIW 2011 opened with a Sunday evening reception for the 40 attendees at the home of Robert Kennedy (he’s behind the camera).
The next day, we continued with an intense one-day 14.5-hour (0800-2230) single-track program of 17 presentations, in the DoubleTree Hotel (aka “Garden Plaza”). Each presentation or talk is consisted of 25 minutes of prepared remarks plus 5 minutes for questions and answers. It was initially sponsored by the Ultimax Group, Inc. TVIW2011 activities ended the following morning with a “dead dog” meeting at the hotel by the Organizing Committee, followed by an invited lecture about SETI at Oak Ridge National Lab by one of our distinguished attendees, Dr. Maccone.
We like to thank our sponsors, without whom this workshop would not have been possible:
as well as our generous individual sponsors: Martha Knowles and Ken Roy, Carol and Les Johnson, and John Preston.
And special thanks to the following people and organizations for their hard work and time in pulling off TVIW 2011:
ORION (Oak Ridge Isochronous Observation Network), Martha Knowles, Carol Johnson
TVIW 2011 Organizing Committee:
David Fields, Les Johnson (chair), Robert Kennedy, Martha Knowles, Greg Matloff, Ken Roy
